Two ladies from Baidibek region are in Astana's hospital

Two ladies from Baidibek region of South Kazakhstan Oblast were hospitalized on Monday, December 24, after an attempt to stage a self-immolation action on the tower of Astana Sports stadium. The ladies - Aysulu Izbasarova and Raifa Seidakhmetova, poured gasoline on themselves and climbed upon the tower trying to attract attention of the country's officials. They have been trying to meet Kazakhstan's leadership since September 1. Their main goal is to make local authorities of South Kazakhstan pay all the overdue social allowances to mothers of Baidibek area. Correspondent of RFE/RL visited the two women in Astana's hospital today. The ladies told that in general, destinies of 14.000 children of Baidibek region were on stake. They also said they were going to continue their strike. Their doctor said though that the ladies health state was alarming adding that more medical examinations should be done.
